A High Intensity Focused Ultrasound Facial or HIFU facial for short is a non-invasive treatment for facial aging. This procedure is part of a growing trend for anti-aging treatments that provide some of the benefits of a facelift without the need for surgery.
How HIFU Works?
The principle of HIFU is to reduce cellular damage and target area volume. HIFU is a therapeutic treatment that uses a focused piezoelectric transducer outside the body to combine ultrasonic energy. It is done at the specific tissue site without any damage to the epidermis and adjacent tissue.
HIFU treatment can also target the muscles on a deeper layer of the skin. The heat from the HIFU beam can reach the skin as well as muscle layers. It leads to fibroplasia and mild forms of inflammation. Triggering of new collagen formation is possible with this technology.

What does HIFU feel like?
You may experience slight discomfort during an HIFU procedure. Some people describe it as tiny electric pulses or a light prickly sensation. Your doctor may suggest taking such as ibuprofen (Advil), prior to treatment. Immediately after the treatment, you may experience mild redness or swelling, which will gradually recede over the next few hours.
How the HIFU Peel Works?
HIFU machine offers faster shot speeds and shorter intervals between each shot, this means it’s very comfortable for the patient, in fact far more comfortable and less painful than many other HIFU treatments on the market. Some people describe it as feeling like tiny electric pulses, or a prickly sensation. It’s not pain free but it’s completely tolerable and it may feel different on different areas of your face or body.
HIFU is also an alternative to a surgical facelift or liposuction, which is likely to hurt far more and require recovery time. Comparatively, HIFU is the much less painful and invasive option.
What is the best HIFU Treatment?
Treatment prices vary depending on the technology a clinic uses, some machines are more powerful, less painful and more effective than others. We suggest you do your homework on the technology that’s used.
Some HIFU machines come part of a multi-platform device, these tend to be less powerful as they offer various technologies in one device (like a jack of all trades!). A dedicated device to this single HIFU technology is much more effective. The cost may be a little more at first but you will need less treatments, see better results quicker.
